Broken or non working fridges
A fridge does not need to work for us to remove it. Before your broken fridge removal appointment:
- Unplug the fridge.
- Remove all food.
- Have a qualified professional shut off and disconnect any water line for an ice maker. Our team does not handle electrical or water disconnections.
If the fridge still works, tell us when you book. We send working units for donation where possible.
Freezers and chest freezers
Chest freezers are wide, low and heavy, and many sit in basements with tight stairs. Our team removes chest, upright and drawer freezers of any size. Freezer disposal follows the same steps as a fridge removal appointment.

Does my fridge need Freon removal?
Most fridges do not. Freon removal is only required when a refrigerator or freezer must be cut apart because it cannot fit through a doorway, stairwell or other access point. Basement fridges are the most common example.
When the fridge can be safely moved out intact, the Freon stays sealed inside. Municipal collection services handle the refrigerant processing.
When dismantling is required, the job takes two separate appointments handled by different teams, typically on the same day:
- A certified gas technician drains the refrigerant.
- The 1-800 RID-OF-IT team then dismantles and removes the appliance.

We price every fridge removal appointment by volume: the share of our truck your items fill. The crew confirms the price on site before any lifting starts. See our minimum load price and rates.
Ways to lower the cost:
- Add other items to the same load.
- Place the fridge at the curb yourself for a 10% curbside discount. The discount excludes minimum fee items.
- Book several units together for a business or rental property.
The City of Toronto also collects appliances from houses at the curb on garbage day, with no per item charge. You move the fridge out, remove the doors and place it beside your bin. Our service suits you when the fridge sits in a basement or condo, or you need it gone on a set day.
What happens to your fridge after pickup
